Dr.A. Kaliyamurthy was born in Budalur, Thanjavur District, had his humble beginning from a farmer’s family. His father's name is Sri.Ayyavu and his mother’s name is Smt.Kamu Ammal.
His wife Smt. K. Suryakala is a fortunate mother of 2 children both eminent medical practitioners as also their spouses. Their son Sri. Dr. K. Ananth M. D(PAED)., daughter Smt. Dr. Pramila Rani M.D(OG)., daughter-in-law Smt. Dr. Keerthana Priyadarshini DNB(OG)., and son-in-law Sri. Dr. Karthikeyan M.S(Ortho)., are great doctors and very popular among the masses.

Dr.A.Kaliyamurthy rendering low cost and free medical services in their hometown is proof of his service mind and philanthropic nature. At the same time, naming his own hospital as "SURYA HOSPITALS" shows his Love and gratitude towards his wife, Smt. K. Suryakala.
He thoroughly believed that the country’s future lies in the classroom, and thus he performed more than two thousand speeches in Schools and Colleges of Tamil Nadu in front of lakhs of students and parents and guided the students to a better future.

In the All-India Police Duty Meet (AIPDM) and shooting competitions held at Nasik (1980), Lucknow (1983), Kashmir (1986) Mr. Kaliamurthy represented Tamil Nadu and won three Gold Medals. Thus, bringing honors to the state of Tamil Nadu.

In 1996 when he was working for the Special Intelligence Department, he arrested the terrorists who were responsible for a massive explosion attack in Pandian Express. And in 2001 he also arrested the Maharashtra underground illegal mafias who were responsible for the murder of a Chennai high court lawyer, for which he was awarded The Best Intelligence Officer’s Gold Medal from Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.

In 2001, Sri. A. Kaliyamurthy due to his concerted efforts arrested two culprits risking his own life and was awarded the Gallantry Medal by the then Hon'ble Chief Minister, Tamil Nadu.

In 2002, at Chennai in a shootout with the terrorists he was injured in the arm and in spite of the injury managed to shoot down two terrorists for which act the Tamilnadu Govt. gave him an accelerated promotion.
